It took eight innings, but the Emery Spartans picked up a big 2-1 win against the San Juan Broncos Wednesday afternoon, and didn’t even have to hustle to do it.
Emery drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving it the win and its fourth 2A East victory of the season.
Zach Jorgensen turned in another stellar performance on the mound, going all eight innings, allowing one earned run on eight hits. He struck out eight batters in the game.
The Spartans had just five hits in the game, one each off the bat of Jordan Baletka, Easton Gordon, Koda Alton, Jorgensen and Colton Willson. Willson and Keaton McDermott each had an RBI in the game.
After falling behind 1-0 in the fifth inning, Willson hit an RBI single in the sixth to tie the score at one apiece. The Spartans then drew the bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eight to secure the victory.
Emery (13-4, 4-2 2A East) will host last place North Sevier (2-10, 0-6 2A East) on Tuesday.
