Four seniors were honored Friday night before the Emery Spartans’ 63-46 win over the North Sevier Wolves.
Koby and Kolton Butler, Zac Jorgensen and Bowdie Jacobson were honored before the tip, and the foursome went on to score all but 11 of Emery’s 63 points in the win. Koby Butler scored a game high 19 points, but Jacobson was right behind with 18, 12 of which he scored in the first half alone.
After jumping out to a 15-7 lead after a three by Jacobson at the 4:13 mark of the first, the Wolves ended the quarter on a 7-2 run to trail by just three after one period of play.
North Sevier hit a three to tie the score at 17 on its first possession before Emery answered with a 10-0 run capped off by a Jacobson layup to take the 10-point advantage. The Wolves countered before halftime with a three to cut the lead to just four, 29-25, at the break.
Jorgensen hit one of his two 3-pointers on Emery’s first possession in the third quarter to increase the Spartan lead to seven. Again, North Sevier responded with an 8-1 run to tie the score up at 33 with 2:07 left in the quarter. Kolton Butler hit a bucket on the next possession and brother Koby scored five straight to end the quarter, giving the Spartans the lead, 40-33.
After a Wolf three-point play to begin the quarter, Emery went on a 12-3 run to get the led to 13, and never looked back.
Jorgensen was the other Spartan in double digits with 10 points. Easton Gordon was next with nine points. Kolton Butler pitched in five.
Emery (18-1, 8-0 Region 15, #1 in 2A) will finish the regular season next week with games Wednesday at San Juan (15-4, 7-1 Region 15) and Friday against Grand (13-6, 6-3 Region 15).
