Spartans Score Four Runs in Fifth in Nail-Biting Win Against Uintah

Since losing twice to Uintah in 2009, the Emery Spartan Baseball team has won three of four games against the Utes and with Tuesday’s 7-6 win, Emery made it four of five. Three of those five games have been decided by only one run.

Down 4-1 entering the top half of the fourth inning, Emery plated four runs and added one each in the fifth and sixth for the win. Emery broke a 6-6 tie in the seventh.

Spartan pitcher Brandon Oliver picked up his first win on the season. Emery racked up 11 hits in the game. Senior Geren Payne went 2-3 with two RBI’s.

Emery hosts Region 16 foe Manti on Friday in its home opener. The Spartans outscored the Templars 26-12 in two meetings last season,В includingВ an 18-5 drubbing April 5. Manti and Emery were both members of 3A’a Region 12 a year ago before dropping a classification this season.
