Emery traveled for a region match against the North Sanpete Hawks on Friday. Coming into the game 1-2 in region, the Spartans were hoping to get their record even in region play.
The first quarter did not go as planned for the Spartans, who found themselves down 25-20. Emery used a big second quarter to bounce back and take control of the game. The team scored 31 points in the second while only giving up 16 points, nearly doubling up the Hawks in the quarter. This gave Emery a ten-point lead, 51-41, at halftime.
Both teams battled back and forth in the third quarter, each scoring 23 points in the period. North Sanpete cut the lead to single digits in the final quarter but the Spartans were able to fight off the Hawks and win the game, 102-85.
North Sanpete shot the ball well all night, converting on 52% of their field goals, including 45% on three-pointers. Emery was able to outlast the Hawks due to their 31-point second quarter, which helped the Spartans to score 51 points in each half.
Kyson Stilson had a game-high 38 points followed by Brax Jensen, who recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 assists. Mason Faimalo and Brodie Tuttle put in 16 and 13 points respectively to help Emery get the win.
Coming up for the Spartans (10-3, 2-2 Region 15) this week are a pair of region matches. First, there will be a home region game against the Grand High Red Devils (10-3, 1-3 Region 15)* on Wednesday. The Red Devils will have their backs against the wall as they will be fighting for their region lives as a 1-4 record would severely damage their chances at a region title. Emery will then travel to San Juan on Friday to face the Broncos (9-4, 2-2 Region 15)**.
Emery is currently tied for third with San Juan in the region behind South Sevier and Richfield, who are both 4-0 thus far. The latter two teams will go against each other this coming Friday, so be on the lookout for a shuffle in the region standings next week.
