Emery invited San Juan, the top 3A team in the state, into the Spartan Center on Tuesday. The Lady Spartans held their own with the topped ranked Broncos but could not grab a win in the first two sets. Emery fell 25-21 in each of the sets.
In the third set, the Lady Spartans were able to break through with a 25-18 victory to pull within one game. They stumbled in the fourth game and lost 25-15 to be defeated three sets to one.
Emery is in the toughest region of the 3A classification. Three Region 12 teams hold a spot in the top five currently, including first (San Juan) and second place (Richfield). The Lady Spartans have hung around in the majority of their games and nearly upset Richfield on the road. Unfortunately, they have not been able to put a full game together to grab a region victory thus far.
The Lady Spartans will head to Richfield this weekend to play in the SVC Tournament.
