Looking to rebound after dropping their season opener last week in Richfield, the Emery Spartans welcomed Summit Academy to Castle Dale for a pre-region matchup on Friday night. The Bears took the victory 35-3.
Emery scored its only points on a Brock Winter 23-yard field goal in the third quarter. The Spartans played the game without one of their top players. Easton Gordon went down with an injury in practice and was unable to play against Summit Academy. Starting quarterback Kyson Stilson left the game in the second half with what looked like an injury as well.
The Bears, after throwing for four TDs last week against Union, scored three of its five touchdowns on the ground against Emery. They also ran back a fumble for 55 yards in the second quarter. The Spartans committed three turnovers in the game, two fumbles and an interception.
Emery (0-2, 0-0 3A North) will host 4A Payson next Friday in Castle Dale. The Lions beat the Carbon Dinos on Friday night 23-14. Payson was upended by Emery 27-14 a season ago. Friday’s game against Payson will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10.
