On Friday, Canyon View Jr. High participated in Reality Town, an educational program that gives realistic financial experience to middle and high school students.
As part of the program, students must first choose a career and learn how to compose a resume. They are taught how to write checks and how to keep and balance their check register. Students have to make financial decisions regarding their Reality Town family and their monthly expenditures.
Throughout the “month”, students must pay mandatory bills, such as house paymentss, while also making decisions on optional expenditures, such as owning a pet. The “Just My Luck” station at Reality Town gives students an emergency bill, such as paying for repairs from a house flood or flat tire.
At the end of the event, students learned if they made it through the month with a positive or negative balance.
