A fiber cut in Salt Lake City on Tuesday morning has left thousands of Verizon customers without cellular service, including customers in Carbon and Emery counties.
“The Verizon service in our area is currently disrupted by a fiber cut in the Salt Lake City area where the backhaul circuits are handed off to Verizon,” said Dave Holzer from Emery Telcom. “The damage is outside of our network but the outage is obviously still impacting us.”
The cut disrupted service around 8 a.m. and impacts customers as far east as Denver and north to Salt Lake.
An estimated time of restoration is not known at this time.
The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents that 911 from any cell phone will work regardless if it shows down or no connection. By law, all providers are required to accept a 911 call even if it is from an old phone or from another carrier.
