The Lady Dino volleyball team opened at home with a heartbreaking loss to the Tooele Buffalos on Tuesday night. It was a back-and-forth affair that took five sets to decide. The outcome was 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 23-25 and 7-15.
Coach Danielle Jensen said she felt really good about the play of her team; however, it’s hard to lose when you battle that hard. She acknowledges that they are much stronger than last year’s squad and she feels like they will be a strong force in region 12 play.
They have been working on the usual areas like serving and passing, but one other aspect that she thinks will pay big dividends is the focus on their body language on the court and making sure the ball never hits the floor on their side of the court.
“Last year we would have folded when we got down, but this year we have learned how to battle and not shut down when we get behind.” she said. “They are fun to watch.”
She also says that she is not going to focus on individual girl’s efforts, but on the efforts of the team. She said that one game there are girls who step up and carry the team, but the very next game it is different players.
“We are still inconsistent in some areas, but all the girls are working hard and improving.”
