UHSRA Season Draws to a Close, On To State Finals

The last high school rodeos of the season, West Millard #1 and #2, helped several rodeo team members from Carbon and Emery gather more points before the state finals. The finals will be in Heber City, Utah starting June 1 and running through June 8.

On Friday at the West Millard #1 rodeo, Kayson Jensen earned fourth in bareback riding, Korby Christiansen took second in saddle broncs and Wyatt Magnuson finished seventh in tie down roping. Korby and Byron Christiansen also teamed up for sixth in team roping.

On Saturday, Kayson Jensen placed third in bull riding, Korby Christiansen earned second in saddle broncs, and Cole Magnuson and partner were seventh in team roping. Three Emery girls placed in break away, including Shaylee Gilbert and Jessie and Abbie McElprang, who finished second, sixth and seventh, respectively.

With state finals in just two weeks, many are spending a lot of time in the practice pen preparing to do their very best. Qualifying for state in tie down roping are Bret Olsen, McKray Duncan, Dax Hall, and Will and Wyatt Magnuson. In team roping, the following individuals are qualified: Dax Hall, Jessie McElprang, McKray Duncan, Drake Weber, Bret Olsen, Cole Magnuson, Jessica Fox, Will and Wyatt Magnuson, and Korby and Byron Christiansen. Shaylee Gilbert, Jessie and Abbie McElprang, and Jessica Fox will be competing in breakaway roping. Byron and Korby Christiansen, Drake Weber will compete in reining cow.

In rough stock arena will be Caleb Rubio on bulls, Kayson Jensen on barebacks and Korby Christiansen on saddle broncs. In the shooting sports, Ruger Payne and Carbon’s Kagen Rhodes will compete in trap shooting. In the rifle will be Kagen Rhodes and James Johansen.
