The USU Eastern Men split games last week with a heartbreaking 82-79 OT loss to Salt Lake Community College on Thursday night. The results were much different with the Eagles on Saturday afternoon with an 81-69 victory over Snow.
Eastern came out fast and strong Thursday ,but the Bruins clawed their way back in the game. By the half, it was knotted at 47. The USU Eastern Men’s Basketball team had the victory in their hands with less than three seconds on the clock. Ahead by three over Salt Lake Community College, they watched as the Bruins sank a three at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. SLCC outscored the Eagles by three in OT to take the win.
On Saturday a strong first half of play by the Eagles was enough to carry them to a convincing win over the Snow College Badgers. Going into the half, Eastern was up by 16 points. Snow was able to step up there effort in the second half of play, but could not overcome the deficit.
Coach Adjalma Becheli (Vando) was very pleased with the effort from his team after the Thursday loss. He was very impressed with the large crowd that came out in support of the team.
“Wow,” he said, “Usually we do not have many people come out to the Saturday games. I was impressed with the rivalry that is developing between the teams. The crowd was amazing.”
Todd Helgesen put up 19 points for Eastern on Friday night to lead the Eagles. Jeleni Neely led Eastern with 21 points on Saturday and Trahmier Burrell came off the bench and added 20.
