USUE Press Release
Utah State Eastern Head Volleyball Coach Danielle Jensen recently announce the signings of Kailey Barnett and Malia Delos Santos to her 2018 recruiting class.
Jensen said that the two players are the final pieces to the 2018 volleyball team and will arrive on campus next month to compete for the Eagles.
Barnett comes to USU Eastern from Memphis, Tennessee where she was a stand out volleyball player for Gateway Christian School. The 6’2 middle blocker was a team captain and All-Region player while averaging 2.02 kills, .72 blocks and .85 aces per set.
“Kailey will be huge for us on the net. With her height, she can put up a big block and will have a major presence in the middle and the right side. Kailey is a very focused athlete and is extremely dedicated to the game,” said Jensen.
Delos Santos, a Layton High School product, will stay close to home and provide athleticism on the outside for Jensen’s 2018 team.
“In addition to Malia’s positive attitude and personality is her ability to play all the way around on the court. She can jump out of the gym, which allows her to put up a strong block. Her heavy arm swing will be important as she takes on the outside position,” said Jensen.
She earned multiple varsity letters for Layton and played club volleyball for Club V while in high school.
USU Eastern volleyball kicks off its 2018 campaign next month in early August with training camp. They will hit the road to Richfield, Utah to open their season with a four-game tournament beginning on Aug. 24 against Western Wyoming.
In 2017, the USU Eastern volleyball team finished the regular season with an 18-10 overall record and reached as high as 13 in the nation in the weekly NJCAA rankings.
