Press Release
Utah State Eastern women’s soccer defeated Otero 1-0 in their final non-conference match of the season Saturday night in La Junta, Colo. The shutout against Otero was their second of the weekend after defeating Trinidad State on Thursday 3-0.
Freshman McKenna Wiscombe scored the game-winning goal in the first few minutes of the game. The center back for Otero made a mistake and allowed Wiscombe to go one on one with the keeper and put the ball in the net.
Wiscombe’s goal against Otero was her fourth of the season through ten games. She is now tied with Kori Jorgensen for most goals scored on the team.
Head coach Ammon Bennett said after the match that he was glad to finish off a long road trip with a win against a good team in Otero.
“It was a well played game,” said Bennett. “We controlled most of it and in the end to get the 1-0 win for the second shutout in a row means it was a good weekend, especially against Otero, who was a good team.”
Sophomore Shyann Jones was in goal for the Eagles for the entirety of the match and picked up four saves.
With the win, the Eagles now have an overall record of 6-3-1.
The Eagles will go back to their conference schedule this weekend with two matches against Snow College in Ephraim. Friday’s match against Snow starts at 3 p.m. and Saturday’s match begins at 1 p.m.
