Verna Lou Greenwood Chapman, age 87, passed away August 5, 2024 in Delta, Utah. Verna was born May 24, 1937 in Price, Utah to Heber and Mary Jensen Greenwood. Verna grew up in Price next door to her best friend and double-cousin, Lois Greenwood. They had many fun adventures together growing up. They were even baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints together at the age of 17.

Verna remained faithful to her testimony of the Savior throughout her life and through many difficult challenges. She served in many church callings including the Bishop’s Storehouse, the Beehive Clothing Center in Delta, did extraction work, served as a temple worker in the Manti Temple for five years, and three years in the Payson Temple. She loved the association with workers and patrons at both temples.

Verna married her high school sweetheart, S. Gale Chapman, on October 8, 1955 in the Manti Temple. Starting with basically nothing, they built a beautiful life together. They were blessed with many opportunities to grow and strengthen their love and bond with each other. They started their married life in various locations in Carbon County. Employment took them to Kemmerer, Wyoming where they lived for 7 ½ years. They made many good friends there with whom they made wonderful memories camping, fishing and hunting. They hunted most anything they could. Mom even got a moose one year. Employment took them from Kemmerer to Huntington, Utah in 1973, where they lived for ten years making more friends and memories. In the fall of 1982, they moved to Delta for a few months and then moved to Leamington in March 1983. Leamington has been her home for the majority of her life and she loved the people here.

Verna loved to read a good book or story, travel, visit with family and friends and cooking the family’s favorite foods. She used to make wonderful chocolate turtles every Christmas.

Verna is survived by her husband, Spenst Gale Chapman, two children, Spenst Gregg (Denise) Chapman, and Danette Houston (John) Pruitt, two sons-in-law, Gary L. Dutson and DeeMar Callister. 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many step grand and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by three infants, Baby Chapman, Jed Allen Chapman, Larry Glen Chapman, two adult children, Mary Sue Dutson and Chandra Callister, son-in-law Richard D.
