Wellington City fire officials petitioned FEMA for a new water tanker for the second year in a row, Fire Chief Johnny Powell reported Wednesday at the Wellington City Council meeting.
Powell said the department’s experience and effort should boost their ability to land the grant. Powell said the department logged 1065 hours during a four-month period between July 1 and Oct. 31.
“We work well with each other and learn from each other,” Powell said. “We enjoy being able to serve this community and know we could not do this without the support of the City. Thank you so much for the support you give that assists us with our duties.”
Powell said his department responded to 11 fires, two wild-land fires, 52 rescues, five community service organizations and hosted 17 departmental trainings that accounted for the 1065 hours.
The estimated cost for a new water tanker was not provided.
