First place was up for grabs on Thursday as both Richfield and Emery came into the match undefeated in region play. The home crowd erupted when Alexis Winter found the back of the net to put the Lady Spartans on top. Emery held on to its lead to go into the break up by a goal. It was a battle in the second half as Richfield was desperately searching for a equalizer. The Lady Spartan defense proved extremely effective, keeping Richfield off the board. Emery went on to take the contest by the same score, 1-0.
The crucial win puts Emery alone in first place in the region standings. The Lady Spartans (5-5, 4-0) have a chance to go up two games over Carbon (6-3, 3-1) on Tuesday when the two teams meet in Price. A loss would likely cause a three-way tie for first place between Carbon, Emery and Richfield.
