Emery’s Ashlynn Allred and Carbon’s Regan Powell continued their dominance on the track after performances at the Delta Track Invitational over the weekend.
Allred, just a freshman, finished first in the 100 meters with a time of 13.37. В Allred then followed the 100-meter performance with a strong second-place showing in the 200 meters with a time of 28.29, just sevenВ hundredthsВ of a second behind first. She then placed third in the long jump with a score of 17’02.75.
Just as impressive is Powell. Powell finished nearly a second ahead of the nearest competitor in the 800 meters, winning the race with a time of 1:02.2. In the 1600 meters, she finished second behind a runner whom she had never raced against, Salem Hill’s Sierra Malm.
“She (Powell) didn’t know what strategy to use in the race because the had never faced her before,” said Carbon Coach Jimmy Jewkes.
Kaleigh Potts, Carbon’s best female high jumper, jumped 5’01, finishing in a tie for first place.
Strong winds with gusts in excess of 50 mph hampered times at the event.
“It was like doing a track meet in a hurricane,” said Jewkes.
Overall, Carbon finished in sixth place while Emery finished 11th. Twenty Five teams competed in the Invitational.
Next up for Carbon is its lone home meet of the season April 14. Emery, along with up to 20 other high schools around the state, will participate.
