Wednesday’s Elmo Town Council meeting opened by welcoming Junior Miss Emery County Harlie Robinson to address the council. She requested the council’s support as a sponsor for the Miss Emery County Pageant. Her request was granted and council members pledged $100. Discussion on Horse and Buggy Days on Aug. 8-10 was then tabled for the evening.

Next, a resolution providing for the creation of a Local Building Authority was adopted. The creation of the authority will make it possible for a lease bond so no additional collateral is needed while the town is paying back the loan received from the Community Impact Board (CIB). The board acting in the authority will be the mayor, council and secretary. This can be renewed every year. These recommendations came from Jeanette Johnson from the legal firm Blaisdell, Church and Johnson.

The 50% grant and loan at 1% interest received from the CIB will be used to add a fire bay and remodel the town hall. Plans include adding a kitchen, relocating the bathroom and installing new carpeting in the main hall.

Other items of discussion included not scheduling a community get-together in July due to the many celebrations and busy schedules. It was also decided that it was not cost effective to have the city hall open for a number of days each month so the town will continue using the drop box at the library.

It was also reported that Elmo Town will not have an election as only two individuals filed and there are three positions to fill.
