The annual Carbon County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Demolition Derby returned after a brief pandemic hiatus on Saturday evening, welcoming many from near and far.

Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood stated that this year’s derby was one of the biggest that they have ever hosted. The organizers were pleased with the community and driver turnout as well as the volunteers. This year, there were over 40 cars that participated in the derby.

The event featured a pre-run class, compact minis, full-sized trucks, mini van/trucks and the 80s or newer chain and bang. In advance, tickets were $13 for adults and $10 for those aged 7-12 as well as seniors aged 60 and up. Children that were six and under were admitted free of charge. Day-of ticket prices increased an extra $2 at the gate.

Sheriff Wood remarked that the Carbon County Search and Rescue is volunteer-based and the guys and gals stepped up and put on “one heck of an amazing show.”

“We pride ourselves in several things about that show,” shared Sheriff Wood.

Some of the pride stems from the event being family friendly and a great one for all to enjoy. With this in mind, he stated that they also try to put on as much of a show as possible while still being out of the fairgrounds by a decent hour. This year, the event ended shortly after 10 p.m.

Concluding, Sheriff Wood remarked that they wished to thank the businesses that sponsored the event and all that donated their time and funds.
