In honor of Broc Jacobson’s birthday, Cleveland Elementary hosted a balloon release on Monday for Broc and his mother, Heather Jacobson, who were recently killed in a car accident. All of the students at Cleveland released the balloons at the same time after singing happy birthday to Broc. Chocolate cake was eaten afterward in his honor.
Heather was a special education teacher at Cleveland Elementary. On Monday, Jodi Olsen began work as the school’s new teacher to fill Heather’s shoes. She has two aids, Cindy Ward and Brenda Jensen, working with her. The duo will be helping students with reading and math.
Jodi is married to Mike Olsen and lives in Castle Dale with her five kids, Tyler (18), Brooklynn (16), Josh (11), Matt (9) and Katelynn (3). Jodi grew up in Huntington and graduated from Emery High. Her parents are Darrel and LaRae Leamaster. After graduating high school, she went to school at USU Eastern and then switched over to Western Governors University.
“It was a good but sad first day,” Olsen said. “I was excited to come and meet my new students and be a part of Cleveland Elementary. The faculty and staff have been great to me. There is no way I can replace Heather, but I am going to continue on the good things she did.”
