The Community Clothing Closet in a non-profit organization that provides clothing to citizens who are homeless or in need. It is owned and operated by Vicki Kulow, Rebecca Mason and Brenda Addley.
While working on the AmeriCorps VISTA project at the Utah State University – College of Eastern Utah SUN Involvement Center in 2010, Kulow, Mason and Addley started accepting clothing donations to go to the homeless and those in need. They made the decision that instead of the items going out of the area, they should do something to keep the clothing in Carbon County to help the community.
When space became an issue, they set out to find a location where they could set up the Community Clothing Closet. The space they are currently in had not been occupied since the 1980s and needed a lot of work and repairs before they could open the doors.
With the help of several college students as well as flooring and paint donations, they were able to open the Community Clothing Closet six months later.
The Utah State University – College of Eastern Utah SUN (Serving Utah Network) Involvement Center’s mission is to unite the college and service communities together in productive, volunteer activities that inspire meaningful service, promote a positive image and develop lifelong, responsibly engaged citizens.
Volunteers In Service To America (VISTA) was founded in 1965 as a national service program to fight poverty in America. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs. AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.
The Community Clothing Closet has a large selection of clothing, shoes and outerwear for men, women and children. Customers are allowed two visits in a 30-day cycle and can receive no more than 25 items per visit.
They also have formal wear and wedding gowns that customers can take out on loan. However, these items must be cleaned upon return.
As the Community Clothing Closet is a non-profit organization, they depend on the kindness of strangers. The entity is always in need of volunteers and donations. Donations may be in cash or in gently used, clean clothes.
Community Clothing Closet is located at 8 East Main Street in Price and is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Kulow, Mason and Addley would like to thank the community for all their support over the years.
