Carbon High graduate Jan Jorgensen was named head football coach at Carbon on Wednesday. The former BYU football star will take over the coaching reins from former coach Jeff Blanc. Jorgensen’s hiring was announced after the Carbon School District meeting.
While a student at Carbon, Jorgensen played both linebacker and quarterback and was credited with 93 tackles and 18 sacks as senior. He also won the 3A state wrestling title as a senior.
Jorgensen signed with Kentucky to play football right out of high school. Midway through his first season, he left to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon his return, Jorgensen went on to star for the BYU Cougars where he was named to the Mountain West Conference’s first team three straight years. His teams went a combined 43-9 during his time there.
Jorgensen will be a second-generation coach for Carbon. His father Jeff Jorgensen also served as the Dinos’ head coach.
