The annual Deserview Pro Rodeo will be hosted on June 11-13, 2015 in Castle Dale. There will be a children’s rodeo on Wednesday, June 10 that will be sponsored by Castle Dale City. There will also be a parade on Saturday, June 13 in Castle Dale.
They decided to change the dates of the rodeo so that more cowboys would be able to attend in 2015. The last rodeo had three cowboys that competed at the NFR and this upcoming year they hope to have several more.
“This year, the rodeo is going to be bigger and better,” said Jake Atwood, Emery County Recreation Director. He also mentioned that Klayton Laws, the rodeo chairman, is working with the committee to improve the rodeo. “Klayton has the knowledge, skill and drive to make the rodeo happen,” said Atwood.
The committee has secured Slim Garner for the rodeo clown. Slim is known for being a pyromaniac. “He likes to blow things up,” Laws expained.
They have also hired Andy Seiler as the announcer. Seiler has announced at several large rodeos, including the College National Finals and Rodeo Houston. “The entertainment will be top-notch,” said Laws.
Recently, the Desertview Pro Rodeo was recognized as the best small rodeo in the Wilderness Circuit for 2014. Atwood explained that this was a huge honor because the award is voted on by the cowboys.
“The cowboys voted for our rodeo because they can see the improvements that we have made, and they are excited to come back next year and compete,” Atwood concluded.
