A double vehicle accident resulted in the closure of Highway 6 on Monday evening.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 5:34 p.m. when a westbound dump truck pulling a flatbed trailer with a front end loader drifted off the right shoulder. The driver reportedly tried to swerve back, but the trailer caught on the lip of the asphalt and rolled over, coming to a rest on the side of the highway on the neighboring railroad tracks.
During the incident, the dump truck also struck a minivan occupied by two people. The van went off the side of the road and came to rest upside down on the tracks. According to authorities, the two minivan occupants sustained injuries and were transported for medical attention.
The driver of the dump truck sustained minor cuts and bruises.
The accident resulted in the closure of the highway in both directions. Authorities reported that traffic would attempt to be alternated after fire and medical personnel cleared the scene. Authorities cautioned that the road will have to be closed once again to make room for wreckers to remove the vehicles.
