After sweeping a recent home tourney, the Emery High swim team continued its hosting action as the team welcomed Uintah, Wasatch Academy, North Sanpete as well as cross-county rival Carbon Tuesday afternoon.
The fight for first was a tight race all around, with the Lady Dinos pulling three points ahead of second-place Uintah. Emery girls’ team finished third. The meet found the Spartans tying for first with Uintah while Carbon’s boys’ team put up a third-place finish overall.
Carbon’s Megan Swasey, Sadie Crompton, Veronica Ibanez and Amanda Liu managed to score a first and time of 2:09.23 in the 200-yard medley. Emery’s team of Alexis Johansen, Angellena Migliori, Kaelee Hooley and Katie Carter walked away with third in the same race.
Emery’s BriAnne Bass and Erin Oliverson put up points for the Black and Gold as each finished second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle. Carbon’s Liu grabbed first in the 200-yard IM, 2:38.90, with Megan Swasey finishing second in the IM as well.
The 50-yard freestyle found Carter grabbing first for Emery, clocking in at 29.19 with Crompton coming in third. Ibanez then grabbed a first for Carbon in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing at 1:11.10 while Hooley grabbed second for Emery.
Liu returned in the 100-yard freestyle, taking third. Veronica Ibanez and Emily Jespersen grabbed first and third in the 500-yard freestyle, the former clocking in at 6:27.18. Bass grabbed second in the same race for Emery.
Shannon Baker, Kacee Barret, Jespersen and Crompton grabbed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay while Carter, Bass, Tarryn Parkins and Oliverson grabbed third in the relay.
Johansen finished third in the 100-yard backstroke for Emery while Crompton walked away with first and time of 1:18.62 for Carbon in the 100-yard breaststroke. Migliori grabbed third in the same race.
Liu, Megan Swasey, Baker and Ibanez managed first for the Blue and White in the 400-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 4:19.91. Johansen, Hooley, Oliverson and Bass managed second.
The Emery boys’ team started strong, clocking in at first and 1:47.74 in the 200-yard medley relay thanks to the work of Keldan Guymon, Daryl Guymon, Garret Stilson and Nate Gilbert. Stilson returned for a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
Daryl Guymon managed another first for the Black and Gold in the 200-yard IM with a final time of 2:13.80. Gilbert grabbed second for the home team in the 50-yard freestyle. Daryl Guymon and Stilson returned in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in second and third, respectively.
Dino Tyson Swasey managed to finish a second place finish between Emery’s Nate Gilbert, who took first with 53.56, and Logan Cox, who managed third, in the 100-yard freestyle.
Gage Jensen grabbed second for the Spartans in the 500-yard freestyle with Minchey, Cox, Parker Stilson and Keldan Guymon grabbing first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:40.81. Tyson Swasey, Kinnon Lyman, Chad Laursen and Rylan Chamberlain managed a third-place finish for Carbon in the same event.
Keldan Guymon and Minchey returned in the 100-yard backstroke, coming in at second and third while Keldan Guymon took first in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:08.95.
Daryl Guymon, Minchey, Garret Stilson and Gilbert made up Emery’s team for the 400-yard freestyle relay and had to settle for second in the event.
The Carbon High School swim team will next face their region competition, which will be held next Saturday, Jan. 28, at Richfield. Emery will continue their hosting action Friday.
