Looking to rebound after a 16-5 defeat early last week to Gunnison, the Emery Spartans traveled to their 2A East counterpart on Friday for another region matchup.
Despite giving up just two runs, the Spartans managed just two hits and one run for the 2-1 loss.
Tel Gardner took the loss on the mound after tossing the complete-game. He gave up nine hits. He also struck out four while allowing three walks.
Bryce Dugmore registered one of the two hits on the afternoon, a triple in the sixth inning. He scored the only Emery run later in the inning. Triston Deabenderfer tallied a single as well.
Emery (3-11, 1-4 2A East) finds itself two games back of fourth place San Juan for the last playoff spot in the region. The Spartans have three games this week beginning with a Tuesday tilt at league-leading North Sevier (13-2, 5-1 2A East). The team will then travel to 3A Union (4-10, 3-3 Region 10) on Wednesday before hosting the Wolves on Friday.
