Manti-La Sal National Forest Press Release
Two new recreation opportunities are available to visitors on the Manti-La Sal National Forest, the Miller Flat Reservoir Campground and two rental cabins at Orange Olsen Administrative Site in Joes Valley.
The Miller Flat Reservoir Campground is located a mile south of the reservoir and offers three double family units and a group site. Each double family site can accommodate up to 12 visitors and two camp trailers while the group site can accommodate up to 50 visitors and six camp trailers.
At this popular site the forest service has constructed roads, graveled sites and installed picnic tables, fire rings and a toilet facility. No drinking water is available.
Visitors may reserve the group site for nightly fee at www.recreation.gov. The double family sites are available only to walk-in customers on a first-come first-served basis. Fees are charged per vehicle per night. If not reserved, the group site is also available at this rate.
“Visitors are strongly encouraged to make reservations for the group site, as it is a popular camping destination, especially during summer weekends” said Ferron District recreation specialist Bill Broadbear. “Reservations are now being accepted from June 1 to Sept. 30.” Cabins will usually be available from May 20 to early October each year.
The cabins at Orange Olsen Administrative are a great addition to recreation opportunities in Joes Valley. “These two cabins are ideally located to provide visitors easy access to the reservoir, nearby fisheries, and the Arapeen OHV Trail System,” Broadbear stated.
The dwelling can accommodate up to six visitors while the cabin sleeps four. In addition, those who rent the cabin are also allowed to bring a camp trailer and place it near the cabin, allowing for larger groups. The trailer pads have sewer and water hook-ups.
Amenities in the dwelling and cabin include solar powered lighting, flush toilets, showers, refrigerators, range, simple cookware, utensils and basic cleaning supplies. The dwelling has two sets of bunk beds, and two single beds, all with mattresses. The cabin has two sets of bunk beds with mattresses.
