While hoping to add a victory to their record, the Green River Pirates weren’t able to make their dream a reality as the Pirates fell to both Whitehorse and Pinnacle on Friday and Tuesday.

Friday found the Pirates hosting the White Horse Raiders and losing the Region 19 tilt 55-52.

Green River opened play by putting up 13 in the first. Whitehorse, however, was able to respond with 16 of its own and continue the lead into halftime, entering the break at 27-22.

The Raiders were able to lead again in the third but not in the fourth, as the Pirates put up a game-high 17 while the Raiders settled for only 13. The difference, however, wasn’t enough to give Green River the victory.

Looking for redemption, the Pirates traveled to Pinnacle on Tuesday, but fell short again, taking a close loss by two points.

Green River opened play by leading in the first 16-9 and continued to do so to end the first half, 24-14. The Panthers responded strongly in the third, however, putting up 14 compared to the Pirates’ eight.

With the score at 32-28 for the Pirates, both teams put their all into the fourth, where Pinnacle grabbed the lead and finished it off with a 52-50 victory.

Jacob Cox led the Pirates in numbers, putting up a combined 38 points between the two games, over 20 of which came in Tuesday’s match. Cox also sank three 3-pointers throughout the round of action.

Samuel Corrigan also made it in double figures in Tuesday’s game, netting 11 and two threes while teammate Trey Vetere managed 10 in Friday’s match. Vetere also sunk two threes Friday and a third on Tuesday. Axel Anquiano also netted a 3-point shot during Tuesday’s matchup.

Green River’s next chance at a victory will come on Friday as the team hosts Monument Valley.
