Saturday featured the 185th birthday celebration of John Wesley Powell as well as the grand opening of the river trail in Green River as members of the community gathered to celebrate.
Throughout the day, admission to the museum was free as visitors enjoyed a variety of activities, such rock painting, chalk the sidewalk, the new paper Powell and Georgie Adoption Program, and letterboxing. A seek and find activity along the river trail was also popular as those in attendance aimed for the prizes awarded at the end of the search.
Throughout the day, those at the museum were encouraged to visit the new exhibit depicting Powell’s first voyage as well as the Glen Canyon exhibit, the boat room and the dinosaur exhibit.
Before visitors left for the day, they were encouraged to enjoy a cupcake while taking photos with Powell in his birthday hat. The event was capped off as those in attendance signed a birthday card for Powell before leaving for the day.
