The Carbon Lady Dinos hosted a three-day tournament last week to begin their season, playing four games in less than 48 hours. Their schedule included one game Thursday night, two games Friday and one final game Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Dinos dominated their competition with a tournament sweep. They stamped out victories over San Juan, South Summit, Grand and Manti, 53-32, 57-28, 66-23 and 59-24, respectively. Perhaps the most impressive take away from the tournament is that Carbon got better as the tournament went along, scoring more points and giving up less in the last two games compared to the opening games.
“I was very pleased with the tournament,” said head coach Ted Bianco. “I thought our kids came out and accomplished what we were expecting. We got to see different line-ups and what they brought to the table each night. I was very pleased with our defensive effort and thought we did a good job of sharing the ball throughout the tournament.”
Senior Jodi Noyes averaged 14.8 points, 7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and nearly 1 block per game. Sophomore McKenna Blanc averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds and 5 steals while Junior Jordan Bianco averaged 9.8 points, 4.8 assists and 4 steals in the tournament.
According to Bianco, the Lady Dinos have room to improve after giving up 61 turnovers in the tournament a 15.25 average. “Offensively, there are some areas that I feel we can improve on, one of them being our ability to take care of the ball,” he explained. “We had a few stretches in some of our games where we were a bit lax with the ball and we need to do a better job of staying focused with our decision making. The tournament was a great way to kick the season off and give us an idea of what we are capable of.”
Carbon gets a few well-deserved days off before they head to Colorado to face Grand Junction on Thursday, Dec. 6.
