A slow second half doomed the Lady Pirates as the Green River sqaud took a narrow region loss against Monticello, 50-46, last week.
The first half went to the Lady Pirates as the team outscored its opponents 14-9 in the first quarter and 12-7 in the second, going into the break with a 26-16 lead.
Monticello rebounded in the third, chipping in 20 points and keeping Green River at 11. The Lady Pirates would have their lowest output of the game in the fourth, managing only nine points while Monitcello sailed past with 14, good for the win.
Daniela Mendez led the Pirates with 18 points, including two treys. Talynn Lovato also scored in double figures, adding 11 for her team.
Maribel Escalante continued to add to her three-point stats, notching two in the game, taking her season total to 36 and 214 in her high school career. Escalante has managed at least one trey in each of the 12 games this season, including a season high eight threes on Dec. 11 against Monument Valley.
Green River (3-9, 1-2 Region 19) will look to rebound on Friday as the team hosts Monument Valley (12-3, 0-1 Region 19) for a 5:30 p.m. tip. The two teams have met once already this season where Monument Valley snagged the win, 52-46.
