Price American Legion team places third in Wyoming tournament

The Price American Legion team split two home games last week. First, Price fell to Hillcrest, 6-3 on June 10. Price bounced back from the loss to beat Cyprus, 7-6 on June 12. Price scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win.

Caden Sherman hit a home run in the inning to kick off the comeback rally. Kenyon Crisp then hit a three-run homer to seal the win for Price.

Following the home win, Price traveled to Green River, Wyo. over the weekend to participate in tournament action. The team finished third overall.

Price opened up the tournament against the host team Green River with a 3-0 win. Brendan Johnson was the winning pitcher for Price and had 12 strikeouts.

During the second game of the tournament, Price faced Riverton and walked away with a convincing 26-5 win. Price scored 17 runs in the third and the game was called after four innings. Braydon Tubbs was the winning pitcher.

The team’s only loss at the tournament came in its third game against Rangley, Colo. Zac Hathaway pitched for Price and lost 9-2. Price then rallied back to beat Evanston, Wyo. in its fourth game 9-2 in five innings. Sherman pitched in the game.

During its final tournament game, Price squared off against Summit, Colo. in an eight-inning win, 12-11. Steven Zamantakis pitched the entire game.

At the Wyoming tournament, Chris Murdock went 7-13 with three doubles. Chris Smith was 9-12 with two doubles. Hathaway was 5-13 with two doubles as well. Sherman finished 8-17 at the plate with three homers and a double. Kellen Trujillo was 8-16 with two doubles. Tubbs was 6-12 with a double, and Crisp had a home run, two doubles and was 5-11 at the plate.

Price has improved over the past week and hopes to continue that growth as it enters the Helper American Legion Baseball Tournament later this week.
