For two kindergarten classes at Wellington Elementary School, this year’s Columbus Day hosted a new kind of visitor. Superintendent Steve Carlsen visited the local elementary school dressed up as Christopher Columbus to help teach the students about Columbus and his impact on history.

“It was fun,” exclaimed kindergarten teacher Brenna Penry. Penry explained how she wanted to help her students have fun while learning about history. Carlsen not only read a story about Columbus, he also answered any questions the students had and also participated in a sing-along about the explorer.

“We made history come alive,” Penry expressed.
