Price City Wave Pool sits abandoned following a gun sighting outside it's gates on Tuesday afternoon.

Many children from Castle Heights and Creekview Elementary got more than they anticipated at a recent field trip to the Price City Wave Pool. Tuesday afternoon, students were enjoying the warm temperatures when two young men walked past the gates of the public pool. One man tripped and a gun was exposed. An alert teacher at the pool spotted the weapon and immediately reported the incident.

Price City Police Department along with other local law enforcement agencies responded immediately. The school children were also evacuated right away, cutting short the end-of- the-year field trip.

“The evacuation was only a precaution,” explained Carbon School District Superintendent Steve Carlson. “There was never a threat to anyone.”

Carlson explained that following the police investigation, it was determined that the young men had just come from Wood Hill and had been rabbit hunting. The weapon was a BB gun which flew from the hands of the hunter.

To make sure that parents from the involved schools were aware of the situation, the school district sent out a mass phone message explaining the event. Carlson insists that it is the district’s intent to keep parents aware of situations that occur within its schools.

In a report released by Price City Police Chief Kevin Drolc no complaints of illegal or dangerous conduct were reported to the responding officers and the male subjects were released without charges.

Although the field trip was cut short, safety was the utmost concern to everyone involved.
